20k Words Done, 40k+ To Go?
It's been a long time since I wrote anything here, but trust me, I've been busy writing. Since publishing Love as Blue as Hawaii in the Surrender to Passion Anthology, I've been writing nonstop. While I only have 20,000 words done (of my first draft) of the full-length version of Love as Blue as Hawaii, I have been writing almost daily on my blog, The Travel Bug Bite. The experience I gained from blogging and freelancing for Youth Time Magazine got me a full-time feature writing job at iPhone Life Magazine!
While I probably write at least 20k every week on non-fictional topics, I have only written that much of my novel so far. However, I am not giving up. This is where I'm tempted to quote some famous bestselling writer who spent decades writing a book. I've been working on this one on and off for nine. Instead, I'd like to share exciting news about my progress. I've been trying to gain some accountability by recording how many words I write this year.
Any change I get, I try to spend a few minutes writing. Then I record my progress in a spreadsheet, NaNoWriMo style but without any goals or time restrictions. I've done as little as 20 words in one sitting and as much as 800 in another. So far, I made 3,000 words of progress in 2021, which isn't much, but it's getting me closer to my goal. We'll see how long it takes for me to finally finish this novel. But I am confident that one day I will. In the meantime, I am also dabbling in short stories on Vocal and I'm hoping to self-publish a short story I wrote a few years ago. I told you I've been writing up a storm!
Oh and I've been using this nifty little Qweky Keyboard to inspire me!
